A pre-historic human upper jawbone was unearthed in a 1927 excavation by the Torquay Natural History Society at the Kents Cavern.

Carbon dating, carried out in 2011, has proved beyond reasonable doubt that the jawbone age range is between 44,200 and 41,500 years old.

Dental structure tests, determined that it is Homo Sapien, making it the earliest human fossil discovered in Britain.
